How to Install and Set Up a WooCommerce Stripe Plugin

Most of the seasoned WooCommerce store owners will probably know how to install and set up a WordPress plugin. However, we think it might be helpful for absolute beginners to have a reference point to understand the process of installing a plugin. So, in this article we will demonstrate the process of how to install and set up a WordPress WooCommerce plugin.

For this example, we will install and set up WooCommerce Stripe plugin. Stripe is a popular payment option for eCommerce stores. With no monthly feed or setting up charges, Stripe is one of the preferred option for a lot of WooCommerce store owners.

It will help you accept payments directly on your WooCommerce store. Throughout the checkout process, your customers will stay on your site without any need for redirection.

Let us quickly look at the process of installing and setting up this plugin on your WooCommerce store.

Downloading the plugin

To download the plugin, you have to go through the checkout process on the WooCommerce site. The plugin is free, so you don’t have to make any payment in the process.

Once the checkout is done, you will be able to download the plugin zip file.

Installing the plugin

Now, you can go to your WordPress site admin and install the downloaded the zip file.

Go to Plugins > Add New

Click the Upload Plugin button.

Choose the zip file for install.

Once you select the plugin zip file, you can simply click the Install button.

Now, you will see a message saying the plugin has been installed successfully.

You can click the Activate Plugin button now. This will activate the plugin on your WordPress site. In this list of Installed plugins, you will see WooCommerce Stripe. You can access the settings page of the plugin from here.

You can also access the plugin settings from WooCommerce > Settings > Payments.

For certain plugins, there will be listing on the WordPress navigation panel itself that you can access directly. However, in this case you have to access the settings of the plugin from the Payments settings.

Configuring the plugin

The settings page for Stripe looks like the below screenshot.

You need to have a business account with Stripe to be able to receive payments through it. For this example, we will demonstrate how you can set up the payment option on your site with the default settings.

You have to simply enable the Stripe payment option and enter the API keys. You will find the API keys from your Stripe account dashboard.

Once you click Save changes, your customers will be able to select Stripe payment option when they checkout from your site.

Please note: You have to enter the live API keys that will be available on your Stripe business account dashboard. For this example, we have used test API keys.
