3 Ways to Create WooCommerce Tiered Pricing with WholesaleX

With WholesaleX, we can create pricing tiers in different ways:

  • Globally (based on user roles),
  • Specific products, and
  • Specific categories.

Let’s explore each of these options to configure your tiered pricing effectively.

Install and Activate WholesaleX

To begin setting up quantity-based tiered pricing, ensure you install and activate the WholesaleX WooCommerce B2B Solution on your WooCommerce store. Once that’s done, you can start creating tiered pricing.

Create B2B User Roles

Before creating tiered pricing, we need to create user roles, to assign tiered pricing in the WooCommerce store. So, let’s create a user role to manage a group of users efficiently. Only users within that role can view the new prices by assigning prices specifically for this role.

Create B2B User Roles

Here’s how to create a user role in WholesaleX:

  • Go to the User Roles section of WholesaleX.
  • Click on the “Add New B2B Role” button.
  • Provide a name for the role
  • Configure other requirements as per need.
  • Save the user role by clicking the “Save” button.

For a more detailed understanding of user roles and a step-by-step guide on creating them in your WooCommerce store, take a look at our blog post about creating WooCommerce user roles.

Creating Global Tiered Pricing

Since we have created a user role, let’s move on to setting up pricing tiers for our users. We’ll begin by offering tiered pricing on all products for all users globally. To accomplish this, we’ll utilize the Dynamic Rules feature in Wholesale, the easiest WooCommerce B2B Solution. This feature allows us to create discount rules that are applied dynamically to all products simultaneously.

Step 1: Create a New Dynamic Rule

To access the Dynamic Rule settings in your WordPress dashboard, click on WholesaleX. Now, from the dropdown menu, select Dynamic Rule. This will take you to the Dynamic Rule page. Then, look for the “Create Dynamic Rule” button and click on it to expand the newly created “Untitled Rule”.

Create a New Dynamic Rule

Step 2: Name the Dynamic Rule

To simplify the management of multiple rules in your store, it’s important to give each Rule a descriptive name. This allows for easy identification if you have more than one rule.

Name the Dynamic Rule

Simply enter the desired name for the Rule in the provided field, and the previously named “untitled rule” will be updated accordingly. Since it’s a quantity-based discount rule and we are creating tiered pricing, you can name it “WooCommerce Tiered Pricing” or any other name that helps you quickly recognize its purpose.

Step 3: Select Rule Type

Within the Dynamic Rule feature of WholesaleX, you will find a range of discount options to choose from.

Select Rule Type

Select “Quantity-Based Discount” from the Rule Type dropdown menu as we are creating tiered pricing. This option is specifically designed for setting up discounts based on the amount of purchased products.

Step 4: Select Users/Roles

WholesaleX offers different options for selecting the users or roles to which the discount applies. You can choose from “All Users,” “All Roles,” “Specific Users,” or “Specific Roles.”

Select Users/Roles

Since we want to apply the quantity-based discount globally, we will select “All Users.” This means the discount will be available to all users in your store.

Step 5: Filter the Products

Next, you must choose the product from the product filter to apply the Quantity-Based Discount. The discount can be product-specific or for all products in your store.

Filter the Products

From the dropdown menu, select the appropriate filter that aligns with your discount requirements. In this case, we will select “All Products,” ensuring that the discount is applied globally across the entire product range of your store.

Step 6: Select Discount Type

Now it’s time to select your discount type for the quantity-based tiered pricing. WholesaleX provides three options: percentage, amount, or fixed price.

Select Discount Type

We will select “percentage” for this case as the discount type. When you choose the “percentage” option, the discount will be calculated as a fraction of the total value of the products.

Alternatively, you can choose the “Amount” option, which allows you to specify a specific cash amount that will be deducted as a discount from the overall price of your customers’ transactions.

The “Fixed Price” discount type is used when a discounted product is added to the cart page. It displays the discounted price of the product on the payment page, eliminating the need to show the price breakdown separately.

Choose the appropriate discount type based on your specific requirements for effectively implementing your tiered pricing.

Step 7: Set the Minimum Quantity

Now, you need to set the minimum quantity of products. This means customers must have to buy this number of items to get a specific amount of discount. Let’s set 100, meaning customers will get a discount when they purchase at least 100 products.

Set the Minimum Quantity

Step 8: Set the Discount Amount

We need to set a discount amount once we set the discount type and minimum quantity. This means when someone buys the minimum amount of the product, they will get the given amount of discount.

Set the Discount Amount

Step 9: Add a Discount Name (Optional)

WholesaleX also lets you set a discount name, which is very useful for a tiered pricing structure.

Add a Discount Name

As we know, tiered pricing has multiple discount tiers, and we can name tier 1, tier 2, tier 3, etc. This will help the customers to understand the tiers and the discounts that come with it.

So, we have successfully created a single tier for your WooCommerce store. Now we will show you how to create multiple tiers.

Step 10: Create Multiple Tiers

It’s time to add additional tiers. Each tier will have its own minimum quantity requirement and corresponding discount.

As you can see in the following image, we have created Tier 1 with a 20% discount which will be available for customers when they purchase 100 products.

Now click on the “+” icon to include additional fields to create additional tiers.

Create Multiple Tiers

For Tier 2, customers must reach a minimum quantity of products to be eligible for a better discount. In this case, the discount will be 25%. This means that when customers purchase 250 products minimum, they will receive a 25% discount on their purchase.

Tier 2

Moving on to the final tier, Tier 3, customers must purchase a minimum quantity of 500 products. This tier offers a discount of 50%. Hence, customers who purchase 500 or more products will enjoy a 50% discount on their purchase.

Tier 3

By implementing these tiered pricing levels, we provide increasing discounts to incentivize customers to purchase larger quantities and benefit from greater savings.

Step 11: Optional Conditions

In addition to the core settings, there are optional adjustments we can make to customize our quantity-based discount further. These options include adding additional conditions based on: Cart Total Quantity, Cart Total Weight, User Order Count, and Total Purchase Amount.

Note: It’s important to note that these settings are optional, and skipping them will not impact your store.

However, if you want to fine-tune your discount based on specific criteria, you can use these additional conditions to enhance your pricing structure further.

Another optional setting that Wholesale provides is the Date & Limit Rule. This setting allows us to set the Rule’s date and usage limit. We can set the duration of the offer in advance and the number of times this offer can be used. Not adjusting these settings will not affect your store.

Date & limit rule

WholesaleX also offers the Date & Limit Rule. With this, you can set a specific date range and usage limit for the Rule. By adjusting these settings, you can define the duration of the offer and the maximum number of times it can be used. If you want to set a time-limited or limit the discount usage, you can do so with this option.

Step 12: Save and Activate the Pricing Rule

Our final step is to save and activate the Rule to complete the setup of the WooCommerce tiered pricing globally. Simply click on the “Save” button to save your settings. You’ll see the “Successfully Saved” message.

Save the Pricing Rule

Then, toggle the rule status button to activate it. Once you toggle the rule status, your configured settings will be applied to your pricing structure.

By following these steps, you can efficiently implement tiered pricing across all products, benefiting all your users.

Creating Product-specific Tiered Pricing

Let’s explore how to create tiered pricing for a specific product. You can achieve this by adding product-specific pricing with WholesaleX.

You can do this from the dynamic rule section by selecting the “Product in list” option from the product filter and adding the products in the “Select Multiple Products” section.

Alternatively, you can create a product-specific price tier directly from the product page of your WooCommerce Store using WholesaleX.

Note: You must create User Roles first to create product-specific pricing tiers.

Let’s see how you can create pricing tiers from the product page.

Step 1: Select a Product from the WooCommerce Product Page

First, we must go to the product page and select the product that we want to add pricing tiers. Then click the “Edit” button under the product name.

Select a Product from the WooCommerce Product Page

Step 2: Go to WholesaleX B2B Special Section

Once you are on the “Edit Product” page, scroll down a bit, and you’ll see the “WholesaleX B2B Special” Section. There you will see all your previously created user roles.

Go to WholesaleX B2B Special Section

Let’s take “B2B Users” for example. Once we click on it, the “B2B Users” section will be expanded, and you will see the “Add Price Tiers” button.

Click the button to get options to set tiered prices.

Step 3: Create Pricing Tiers

Just like we have shown you in the dynamic rule section (Global Tiered Pricing) earlier, you need to set the “Discount Type”, “B2B Users Price”, and “Min Quantity.”

Create Pricing Tiers

Then click the “Add Price Tiers” multiple times to add more tiers.

Step 4: Update the Product

Now, all that’s left is to update the product by clicking the “Update” button. Once you update the product, customers will get discounts based on the information you added while creating pricing tiers.

Creating Category-specific Tiered Pricing

Now that we have successfully created tiered pricing globally and product-specific tiered pricing, we will show you how to set tiered pricing based on category.

We can do it in two different ways. We could create a new dynamic rule by selecting the category option from the product filter and selecting the desired category. Or, we can add the tiered pricing from the Product Category editor.

Let’s show you how to do that from the category editor.

Step 1: Select a Category from the WooCommerce Category Page

To set tiered pricing based on categories, navigate to the category editor on your store. You can access it by clicking “Products” in your store’s dashboard and selecting “Categories.”

Select a Category from the WooCommerce Category Page

Once on the category editor page, you can choose the specific category to which you want to apply tiered pricing. Click the “Edit” button under the respective category to proceed.

Step 2: Go to the WholesaleX Tiered Pricing Section

Once you are on the “Edit Category” page, scroll down a bit and see the “WholesaleX Tiered Pricing” Section.

Go to the WholesaleX Tiered Pricing Section

As shown in the product-specific tiered pricing, expand the “B2B Users” section and see the “Add Price Tiers” button.

Click the button to get options to set tiered prices.

Step 3: Create Pricing Tiers

Exactly similar to the product-specific pricing tiers settings, you need to set the “Discount Type”, “B2B Users Price”, and “Min Quantity” here.

Create Pricing Tiers

Click the “Add Price Tiers” multiple times to add more tiers.

Step 4: Update the Category

Now you must save the changes by clicking the “Update” button. Once you update the category, customers will get discounts based on the information you added while creating pricing tiers.

And we have shown 3 separate ways to create WooCommerce tiered pricing. Choose the one you find suitable for you and your store.

Changing Tier Table Layout

WholesaleX not only gives you the opportunity to create pricing tiers, but it also lets you change the tier table layouts. There are multiple ways you can change the tier table layout.

First, from the WholesaleX Settings, and then go to designs. There are a total of 8 tier table layouts you can choose from. Once you select your preferred layout click the “Save Changes” button to use the tier table layout in your store.

Note: The tier table layout might vary from theme to theme.

And secondly, from the product editing page, you will see a tab named WholesaleX. From there you can change the layouts. Don’t forget to save it before leaving.

Benefits of Tiered Pricing in WooCommerce

Setting a WooCommerce tiered pricing plan for your B2B business offers several benefits that can contribute to increased revenue:

  • Encourages More Purchases: Pricing tiers incentivize customers to buy more products by showcasing the milestones required to unlock higher discount tiers. This motivates them to make larger purchases due to the savings offered in higher price tiers, resulting in higher average order values (AOV).
  • Efficient Inventory Management: A tiered pricing structure helps clear your inventory faster. By setting up different tiers, you can drive sales and achieve your targets more quickly, allowing you to replenish and manage your inventory effectively.
  • Serves Both B2B and B2C Customers: Tiered pricing caters to both B2B and B2C customers. B2C customers benefit from discounts as they buy more, while B2B users are encouraged to make larger purchases. This approach increases overall sales and accommodates different customer segments.
  • Increased Revenue Per Unit Sold: Unlike volume pricing, tiered pricing safeguards your revenue by ensuring that significant price drops occur only when customers exceed a certain threshold, protecting your profitability.
  • Provides Various Options: Offering multiple price tiers gives customers a range of choices. They can start with a basic tier and, if satisfied, upgrade to a more premium tier, providing flexibility and potentially increasing revenue.

By leveraging the benefits of tiered pricing, you can enhance customer engagement, increase sales, and optimize revenue generation for your WooCommerce store.

Conclusion

We believe that our article on creating WooCommerce tiered pricing has provided you with valuable information. We have outlined all the necessary steps for setting up tiered pricing in WooCommerce stores with the simplest WooCommerce B2B Solution, WholesaleX.

Price tiers are widely utilized in B2B WooCommerce stores. Customers who perceive the opportunity for better deals are more inclined to purchase additional items.
